Actually Ricky King wanted to become a guitar teacher, but the interest in guitarbands of the 60's and 50's changed his career. After that he successfully graduated for his state examinations, one could hear him in 1973 in the groups of ‘Joy Unlimited’ and ‘Hitkids. Three years later Ricky released his first solo album and in 1976 Ricky King published his single Verde which made him a superstar all over Europe. A second superhit followed with Le Reve. Other hits were Haley, Hey Louise, Fly with me to Malibu, Ahoi, Ay ay Capt' n, La rose noire, and Glocken der Heimat. His first two albums were Gold and his third album even reached the Platinum status.

His most successful album sold over 800.000 copies.

The total sales of Ricky King´s albums exceed 3,8 millions and singles sales are up to now estimated to 1.6 millions. No other German instrumentalist achieved such massive sales. All together he achieved 1 x platinum and 8 golden Records in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
