John Mayall - Road Show Blues
John Mayall was born 29th November 1933 in a small English village near Manchester - a far cry at that time from the black American blues culture we are all familiar with today.
Mayall in the early 60's formed the (now legendary) John Mayall´s Bluesbreakers whose sidemen were later to include some of the major forces in popular music. Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce (Cream), Mick Taylor (The Rolling Stones), Mick Fleetwood and John McVie (Fleetwood Mac) to name a few.
Attracted to the culture and climate, John made his permanent move to California in 1969 and, during ensuing years became well known for his many musical jazz/rock/blues innovations featuring such notable American musicians as Blue Mitchell, Red Holloway, Larry Taylor, Harvey Mandel and Sugarcane Harris. What is remarkable is that, with over 35 albums to his credit, and after more than 35 years in the spotlight, he has never had a hit record to account for his continued demand and popular worldwide success.
His band, which formed in 1979, featured Soko Richardson on drums from Ike & Tina Turner, Maggie Parker (his future wife) on vocals, James Quill Smith on guitar and Kevin McCormick on Bass. They were a tightly knit unit, which when recording Roadshow Blues in Los Angeles, had done hundreds of shows together over the previous 12 months.
