Spartacus is one of the most famous masterpieces of the Soviet ballet period. This choreography follows the inspiration of the great ballet dancing trends from this sumptuous Bolshoi period.

Spartacus born free in Thrace enlists in the Roman Army. He becomes a deserter on the lam before being taken back by the army and reduced to slavery. Sold in Rome to the rich owner of the Gladiators school he is obliged to fight in the arena and to entertain the crowd. But Spartacus rebels and escapes with seventy other slaves.

The rebellion rose by Spartacus (73 – 71 AD) became an outstanding event in the history of Rome and has historically inspired the revolutionaries of the nineteenth century.

Spartacus was created in 1976 by Grigorovitch at the Moscow Bolshoi Theater and danced by Ekaterina Maximova, Valdimir Vassiliev and Marus Liepa.
