Dr. John - Trader John
Dr John's music is as hot & heavy, as a sweat soaked humid New Orleans Summer night. His music is a timeless tradition of the Crescent Cities best styles of Funk, R&B and Traditional music played with an attitude of fun and hipsterism that continues to be a major world wide influence.
Dr John (Mac Rebennack) has been called "The Blackest White Man In The World" by record business legend Jerry Wexler, who says that even his soul is black. He was born in New Orleans in 1940, and immersed himself in the black music styles of New Orleans, initially through the influence of his father, who owned a record store and played blues and locally recorded records, and later, as a teenager was playing on recording sessions by the mid 1950's.
Dr John is a prodigy, and has incorporated funk, rock 'n' roll, jazz & R&B into his style. It is said he knows more New Orleans black musical styles than any other white player. He is truly a guardian of the roots of New Orleans music, and is one of the Crescent Cities favourite sons.
