One of the most successful integrated doo-wop groups, the Crests waxed the classic ballad "16 Candles" in 1959. Led by Johnny Maestro's warm tenor, their early singles for the Joyce label ("My Juanita", "Sweetest One") produced their first hits and attracted the attention of doo-wop fans from coast to coast. Rarely featured on CDs, the Crests early output is an integral part of doo-wop history and finally sees the light of day with this release.
Universally hailed as one of the finest and most influential vocal groups in pop music history, the Flamingos defined doo-wop at its most elegant and sophisticated, their matchless harmonies profoundly impacting the Motown Sound of the 1960s and the Philly soul of the following decade.
Their out put for Chicago's Parrot label produced some of their finest offerings such as the classic "Dream of a Lifetime" and, like the Crests early offerings, their early singles are hard to find on CD. This compilation offers the doo-wop nation a closer look at two of the most influential groups in doo-wop history.
