Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen - The Tour From Hell
COMMANDER CODY & HIS LOST PLANET AIRMEN first got together in 1967.
In 1968, their new Singer /Harp player, Billy C. Farlow, of Decatur Alabama began performing with the guys and Billy C. and George penned their first original tunes, "Down To Seeds And Stems Again" and "Goin' Back To Tennessee". Later that year they jumped in to their Ozone van and headed west to San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury District, arriving just in time for 1969's "Summer Of Love". They were immediately signed to Paramount Records, and their first album "Lost In The Ozone" coughed up a hit single, "Hot Rod Lincoln" which sold a
million records and launched the boys into Rock and Roll history.
Although they have a hard-drinking, deep-toking image, in fact they have always played a virtuosic, revved up assortment of Boogie-Woogie, Western Swing, Country, Roots, Rock and Rockabilly.
The Continuing Adventures of Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen is either their 18th or 19th album release, depending on which discography you read, and is their most recent release since 1994's "Worst Case Scenario" (AIM 1043), a recording of brand new songs. The songs on this recording were made in 1973, on what was later dubbed by the band as the "Tour from Hell". The guys had bought an old Greyhound bus and following their big hit, "Hot Rod Lincoln" the previous year and its incredible success, they undertook a gruelling,
non stop tour of the US for hundreds of shows in every part of the country. The recordings on this CD come from that tour.
