No More Babylon Biography

Reggae activist with a message for over 13 years, No More Babylon is amongst the most experienced and skilled French reggae bands. During those years, No More Babylon has shared the stage with numerous international artists such as, to name but a few, Jimmy Cliff, Alpha Blondy, Yellowman, Ijahman Levy, Mystic Revelation Of Rastafari, Toots And The Maytals, U Roy, and Misty In Roots, both all over France and Europe (the Eurockeennes de Belfort and the Printemps de Bourges in France, the Rototom Sunsplash in Italy, the Sundance in Netherlands, … )

After a couple of albums, "Stand The Pressure" in 1999 and "Vampayah" in 2003, the band was praised for its ability as a backing band alongside artists such as U Brown, Rod Taylor, Josie Mel, Sheila Hylton, Tyrone Downie (Bob Marley's keyboardist), Kenny Knots, Madu, Jah Marnyah, Wonda Prince, Brother Marcus, Anthony Que and reggae stars Ken Boothe and Earl 16 with whom the collaboration would give birth to the very first live recording of both artists : Earl 16 "Live With No More Babylon / Mash Up the Dance" - 2004, and Ken Boothe "Live In Paris" - 2005.

The last reggae chapter of this ever growing story comes in the shape of the 3rd album from the band : "Roots Meeting", 2008. The most accomplished opus so far, the collaboration with people like Stephan Blaess (production - Ghetto Blaster, Bad Brains, Princess Erika,...) allowed the band to get this beautiful sharp "old roots" sound which we haven't heard in decades...(What a relief !).

Arrangements remind us of the British reggae sound of the 80's of bands like Steel Pulse and Aswad alike. "Roots Meeting" is a meeting ! Featuring singers (Earl 16, U Brown, Ken Boothe, Brother Marcus from Holland) and musicians: Stepper holds the sax like he did with Horace Andy or Black Uhuru back in the days and Didier Bolay blows the trombone (Tiken Jah Fakoly).

This 3rd album is a pleasure to hear but No More Babylon is fully enjoyed LIVE !! Smooth melodies, moving and rebel lyrics riding heavy bass lines and glorious mixing ! A must to see (and hear !) for any real reggae aficionados out there ! Recently the band as expanded by adding a permanent horns section to perfect the formation.
