Florida Punk From The Sixties

In the mid-60’s, a storm came from the UK and changed the values of rock music. The American public rediscovered the natives’ Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll thanks to the Beatles and the Stones. This new musical invasion dag the path for the young Americans. A new generation of bands, free of barriers, used the energy of rock music towards different ends. Even if the budgets were low ad the concords familiar, the enthousiasm was high. So high that it would spread through every states in the country. A musical storm… Maybe the biggest Florida ever seen!

« Baby » from the Tasmanians has remained undiscovered for a long time by the psyche punk pundits. As burning as underestimate, this song combines savage hamonica and massive guitar riffs. « Love, Love, Love » is a beautiful pop love song. « Gone » and « Dead Seed » come from two singles of Plastic Blues Band.

Their abuses of fuzz guitars , wha wha pedal and the effervescence of their psyche rock is addictive. Mark Markham and The Jesters wrote « Goin’ Back to Malboro Country » and « I Don’t Need You ». If hey know how to use a piano and out of tune guitars, they are also capable of creations like the ones of The Stones, Pretty Things and Chocolate Watch Band. The Talula Babies are a real enigma for rock garage historians. Their « Hurtin’ Kind » is as vital as the very different tender « Mine Forever ».

The Mods from Tampa chose to express themselves with « Empty Hearts » of Jagger / Richards and « Sweet For my Sweets » (Pomus / Schumann). Those covers still sound good ! With a nearly perfect conception « Heartaches Stay The Night » from the Esquires is a brilliant psyche piece. « Heat », on the B face is instrumental. In the same psyche punk atmosphere, « No Comin’ Back » of the Palace Guards is absolutely indispensable and « Gas Station Boogaloo Downtown » is crazy delirious. « Black Lightening Light » from the Shy Guys is as awesome. « Good Bye To You » is more peaceful. Those two songs are like day and night.
