Flamin Groovies - '70
This disc contains a 1970 rehearsal (in front of only a few friends) by The Flamin’ Groovies at the Matrix, a small but historic San Francisco night club. The feeling is loose and informal and the band members stretch out the songs with extended solos, obviously enjoying themselves.
There is even an impromptu blues jam (“Jam Sandwich”). Though some of the songs may sound familiar, the performances on this album do appear for the first time ever on CD. If you are a Groovies Fan, or even if you’re not, I think you will enjoy this glimpse of the band in rehearsal back in 1970.
The sound quality and mix are excellent and the boys give a spirited performance…so dig in! (Whizman Spivey 1984)
